"Brightening Smiles, Healing Minds"
In healthcare, our mouths and our minds are usually treated as separate. Queen Ann’s Mental Health and Oral Health Initiative was built to break that wall. We know that dental pain and crooked teeth can cause severe bullying, anxiety, and low self-esteem. At the same time, struggling with mental health can make basic daily tasks like brushing your teeth feel impossible. We do not believe in partial healing. Our unique approach combines two professional worlds: • Clinical Dentistry: Led by our founder, a public health dentist, to eliminate dental pain and restore teeth. • Social Administration: Led by our co-founder, a social worker, to fight school bullying, counsel students, and rebuild confidence. We believe a brightened smile is the first medicine for a wounded mind. By restoring a confident smile, we spark the courage needed to heal the mind.

By restoring physical confidence and relieving systemic physical distress, the initiative serves as an immediate catalyst for healing anxiety, reclaiming self-esteem, and combating social isolation across Ugandan youth and low-income communities.

Queen Ann's Initiative
Welcome to the Queen Ann Oral Health and Mental Health Initiative. As a co-founder, this mission is deeply personal to me. For years, I lived with crooked, non-aligned teeth. It completely took over my life. I was trapped in a place where I feared to smile, lacked basic confidence, and constantly hid my face from the world.
One day, my sister—who is the founder of this initiative—found me crying behind a classroom block. I was being severely bullied because of my teeth. I felt completely broken and helpless. Right then and there, seeing my pain, my sister made me a promise. She promised she would study dental health so she could help people like me.
She kept that promise. Today, she is a qualified dentist with a Diploma in Public Health and Dentistry. Eventually, I was able to get braces, which completely changed my life.
But our journey taught us a hard truth: dental struggles are not just about physical health. They completely shape your mental well-being, your self-esteem, and your safety. When you feel down or anxious, taking care of your teeth is hard. And when you are bullied or feel bad about your smile, your mental health drops.
We started this initiative to break that dark cycle. We want to bring these two worlds together, end the shame around mental health, and make dental care easier to reach for everyone. We built this platform to ensure that nobody has to hide behind a school building, live in darkness, or suffer alone.

In many Ugandan communities, both oral healthcare and mental wellness are critically neglected, underfunded, and surrounded by severe social stigma.
Chronic dental pain acts as a constant physiological stressor, escalating cortisol and exacerbating generalized anxiety and clinical depression.
Dental disfigurement, visible decay, and missing teeth trigger profound social anxiety, body dysmorphia, and isolation. Individuals literally hide their smiles, collapsing their professional prospects and social confidence.
Severe psychological distress and low self-worth cause individuals to abandon basic self-care, creating a rapid downward spiral of oral neglect.
"To raise a fully restored generation of young people who step boldly into the world with pain-free, confident smiles and resilient minds."
"To bridge the gap between clinical oral healthcare and community social support, ending the stigma surrounding mental health and dental struggles through integrated care, advocacy, and education."
Restoring absolute self-worth and pride in every face and voice.
Serving vulnerable and overlooked peri-urban demographics equitably.
Operating under professional dental and ethical psychiatric standards.
Honoring commitments to corporate partners and grassroots communities.
Cultivating shared, collaborative spaces for structural community healing.
